Pebbles Tlc Manager Interview Essays

Just when you thought you'd heard the last of TLC's public battle with former manager Perri "Pebbles" Reid, a new twist has come up. Reid has finally taken legal action against VH1's parent company, Viacom, for what she called "many false and defamatory statements" made about her in the network's original TLC biopic, "CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story."

The New York Post reports that Reid, who is also a singer and music executive, filed a $40 million lawsuit against Viacom on Friday over the 2013 film. The suit claims that "CrazySexyCool" portrays Reid "as a conniving and dishonest business woman who hoodwinked three innocent girls and exploited their talent for her own personal gain," and alleges that the network "ignored fundamental canons of journalistic and literary conduct by publishing false and defamatory accusations with actual malice."

The suit also states that Reid never withheld the trio's contract terms, and never controlled their lawyers or accountants, contrary to what is depicted in the film.

Since the movie's record-breaking premiere last October -- it proved to be VH1's most-watched original movie of all time -- Reid has been very outspoken in denouncing the biopic through an array of media interviews. She has also released a statement on her website:

First I want to thank all of you for the well wishes and prayers. I apologize for the delay in responding to the movie, but I wanted to gather my thoughts. I have always been a private person and this unprovoked attack has been extremely upsetting to me and my family. I have needed time to spend with my family and for personal reflection.

The movie contains many false and defamatory statements and scenes about me. Please know that I have never cheated or misled anyone. I will defend my reputation, accomplishments, and character. My attorney is in the process of demanding a retraction of the false and defamatory statements and scenes about me from VH1.

After weeks of releasing various statements and comments via social media in response to how she was depicted in TLC’s much talked about biopic, Perri “Pebbles” Reid visited HuffPost Live to continue to tell her side of the story on Wednesday.

And as expected, the group’s former manager continued to defend various allegations made against her in the VH1 original film. In addition, she revealed her feelings on whether she felt exploited by label executive, Clive Davis, for the trio’s past financial issues.

“I have been disregarded, disrespected, and defamed from everybody that was a part of that process of what took place…as it relates to being thrown under a bus,” she said. “Clive Davis knows my involvement and my creativity, and my responsibility for what I brought to the table…Nobody will speak up for me.”
